Each year at the Emerald Eve celebration, “Burke P. Bear Awards” are bestowed upon special friends in honor of their commitment to the Donna M. Crandall Memorial Foundation. At the 2009 Emerald Eve, bears were presented to Tony Mashuta and Kathy and Kevin Bette.
“The ability to reach more families is dependent upon the generosity of all of our supporters,” said Foundation President David Crandall. “But the 2009 Burke Bear recipients are very unique contributors. They have quietly and consistently provided contributions for 10 years in an amount for which the phrase ‘thank you’ seems inadequate. Their belief in our mission makes what we do possible.”
When combined, the corporate and personal contributions from Tony and the Bettes have exceeded $90,000 in the past 10 years.
At the 2010 Emerald Eve set for November 13, the Foundation will have a special guest, Bob Derr, on hand to help present bears to honorees. Bob is the father of Burke, the young man who inspired the Boyd’s Bear Company to create Burke Bears 13 years ago. The Donna M. Crandall Memorial Foundation has chosen the collectible plush bear as its ‘trophy’ because it represents hope and commitment within the CF community.
