(LOUDONVILLE, NY) – The 12th annual Emerald Eve to benefit The Donna M. Crandall Memorial Foundation is set for Friday, November 16th at the Canfield Casino in Saratoga Springs from 7-11 p.m. The Foundation is dedicated to positively impacting the lives of cystic fibrosis (CF) patients who are treated at Albany Medical Center’s Cystic Fibrosis Center.
“Our goal is to alleviate the burdens patients and families face, and whenever possible, help to make life a little better,” explained David Crandall, Foundation President. Over the past 12 years, The Foundation has raised more than $1.5 million to achieve that goal. “We believe a cure is just around the corner,” he said. “But until then, we will do whatever we can to provide support.”
Each year, the Donna M. Crandall Memorial Foundation provides significant assistance to patients struggling financially, from paying out-of-pocket medical costs, covering various living expenses for those falling behind due to illness or hospitalization, and helping with incidentals associated with the lung transplant process.
The Foundation also organizes seasonal contests for trips, cash or other prizes. For example, earlier in 2012, a separate fundraising endeavor was undertaken to help supplement a Make-A-Wish trip for a Clifton Park CF teen to attend the London Summer Olympics. Another CF patient and his family were the recipients of a Disney World vacation made possible by generous friends of the Foundation. In addition to these efforts, a gift bag program for hospitalized patients is legendary among the CF community.
Emerald Eve highlights will include a video featuring Donna’s brother, Kevin Murray, reminiscing about life with Donna; two local CF siblings who have enjoyed Foundation support, and Jonathan M. Rosen, M.D., Director of the Adult CF Clinic at Albany Medical Center. The jazz duo Tequila Mockingbirds will entertain guests as they enjoy a raw bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, elegant carving stations and silent and live auctions.

The Donna M. Crandall Memorial Foundation is a 501©(3) charity established in 2000 as a formal tribute to Scotia’s Donna M. Crandall, who battled cystic fibrosis for 41 years. A family-run, volunteer-based organization, the Foundation has no overhead and has never had to say “no” to a patient in need. The first Emerald Eve was an intimate gathering in Donna’s sister-in-law’s living room. Today, it draws 350 guests who each year help raise more than $130,000.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive systems of about 30,000 children and adults in the U.S. A defective gene causes the body to produce unusually thick mucus that clogs the lungs and pancreas, leading to life-threatening lung infections and preventing natural digestive enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.
